sunrise over swamps

sunset over melancholy seas

Poem 14 of 30

on April 16, 2013

The sun has set far too early,

before the fading echo of screams

finally met the stillness of sorrow,

and while the pounding of feet on pavement

ran into the future.

A new future:

a new vision,

tainted with the memories of the

lost and broken bodies,

the tormented faces,

the horror and

the unspeakable grief.

Blood cries out a curse against the one who sheds it

and the blood-soaked soil of the earth in chorus proclaims

a symphony of suffering

and a witness against the violent.

The sun has set early

so that night seems to reign, but

a new dawn will come:

bright and alive and

the beginning of peace.
