a long queue at the pony rides

I got a bit carried away when playing with my children and their Lego.

wetlands

I recently explored some wetlands located near our house, and while I was there I got to see numerous different species of birds, as well as hear the frogs.

I was particularly drawn to the purple swamphens,Β Porphyrio porphyrio melanotus. Their feathers are a beautiful bluish colour, and they seemed quite confident as they trotted along the busy path.

Armed with my little nokia phone, I was able to take some pixelated snapshots of the swampier parts of the wetlands. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take a decent photo of any of the myriad birdlife there, but sometimes I find it’s better to just be in the moment and experience what’s happening around me, as opposed to running around trying to capture the moment in a photograph. That is, instead of living vicariously through a camera lens, it’s about just allowing life to happen around me. It’s nice to slow down.

And, here’s a photo of me looking whimsically out at one of the lakes, watching the many birds enjoying their island haven far from the reach of humans.

Yes, my hair is black, purple and pink, just in case you were wondering. It’s not particularly obvious here, but I felt the need to mention it – the purplish bit in my hair is not some colour distortion in the camera!
